County OSU Extension budgets about $300K for 2021 | Local News – The Bryan Times

The Williams County Ohio State University Extension Office anticipates a budget just under $300,000 for 2021.

That puts the office’s budget on par with its anticipated expenses from 2020, Stephanie Karhoff, OSU Extension educator, agriculture and natural resources staffer, told Williams County Commissioners during a budget update Thursday.

Karhoff was joined by Stacey Perry, OSU educator and 4-H youth development staffer, in meeting with commissioners via video conferencing.

Karhoff told commissioners that anticipated revenue in 2021 from the extension office levy is $292,159, with total expenses estimated at $226,152. That leaves a carryover balance of $66,007, which is within OSU’s recommended carry-over balance 25% to 33% of expenses, Karhoff noted.

She also told commissioners the office will return to the ballot in 2021 to renew the 0.4-mill operating levy. The issue will be on the 2021 primary ballot if there is a primary ballot (which is undetermined as of yet); otherwise it will be on the 2021 general election ballot in the fall.

OSU Extension offers programs in family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, community development and agriculture and natural resources.

Due to COVID-19 this year, “We’ve had to adapt and do more virtual programming than we have in the past,” Karhoff told The Bryan Times after the meeting. However, that has also provided some additional benefits, such as access for program participants to additional speakers and programs from out of state and out of the country.

Karhoff also noted that digital streaming of fair shows this year due to COVID-19 allowed some grandparents who could not leave their assisted living facilities to view their grandkids’ participation in this year’s Williams County Fair shows, sometimes for the first time in years, she said.

The OSU Extension Office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by appointment only during business hours, due to COVID and social distancing state restrictions. For appointments, call 419-636-5608. Or, for a staff directory, log onto https://williams.osu.edu/about/staff.
