Maharashtra slashes budgets for each naxal-hit district to Rs 75 lakh – Times of India

MUMBAI: The cash-strapped state government on Monday drastically cut budgetary provisions for the naxal-infested Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Gondia districts to mobilize funds for tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
As per an order issued by the by planning department, a provision of Rs 3 crore was made for for each of those districts but on Monday, it was reduced to Rs 75 lakh for each.
The department had on April 16 issued a set of stringent guidelines for utilization of funds meant for development in view of Covid-19, then it imposed a budgetary cut of 67% to mobilize Rs 70,000 crore for tackling Covid. More than a decade back, the planning department had proposed special funds for naxal-infested areas.
