The federal government has planned N336m to battle hate speech and fake news which numerous critics say is an endeavor to stiffle free speech, Newzandar reports.

 

In the 2021 spending proposition introduced to the National Assembly by the President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday October 8, it was accumulated that the cash will be utilized for extraordinary edification crusade on government strategies and projects; tribute arrangement to measure the effect of government approaches on the populace, support against counterfeit news, hate speech, ranchers herder conflicts, banditry, assault and so on.

It read:

“ERGP9124023 Special enlightenment campaign on government policies and programmes; testimonial series to gauge the impact of government policies on the citizenry, advocacy against fake news, hate speech, farmers-herder clashes, banditry, rape etc. ongoing- N336,015,959.”
